Team Physician
Dr. Jonathan Koscso
MD | Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeon | Kennedy-White Orthopedic Center | Associate Team Physician, Tampa Bay Rays
Dr. Jonathan Koscso is an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon at Kennedy-White Orthopaedic Center in Sarasota, FL.
Dr. Koscso serves as the official Team Physician at Athlete Pro Sports Medicine. As a competitive triathlete himself, he brings a lived understanding of athletic training and performance — not just clinical expertise. He is embedded in the team, invested in athlete outcomes, and uniquely equipped to serve athletes who train and compete at every level.
Tampa Bay Rays Affiliation
Before medicine, Dr. Koscso was an athlete first. He was a 3-year captain of the USF Bulls baseball team, graduating magna cum laude in Biomedical Sciences, before being drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2011 MLB Draft. He played professionally in the Rays organization before returning to pursue his medical career.
During his fellowship, Dr. Koscso served as a team physician for the New York Mets and the Brooklyn Cyclones, and cared for athletes from the Giants, Rangers, Knicks, Nets, and Liberty. Today, he serves as an Associate Team Physician for the Tampa Bay Rays and Head Orthopedic Surgeon for New College of Florida Athletics.
Triathlon Background
Outside the OR, Dr. Koscso is a competitive triathlete — which is exactly why this partnership works. He understands what it means to train with purpose, race with a goal on the calendar, and need a care team that gets it. He doesn’t just treat athletes — he is one.
Education & Training
He earned his medical degree at the USF Morsani College of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Washington University in St. Louis/Barnes-Jewish Hospital — a top-10 national program — followed by a specialized Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, ranked the #1 orthopedic hospital in the country by U.S. News & World Report.
Dr. Koscso specializes in conditions of the shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankle — including rotator cuff tears, labrum repairs, ACL reconstruction, meniscus injuries, Achilles repairs, and biologic treatments like PRP and hyaluronic acid injections.
Why a Team Physician?
Most clinics hand you a referral slip and wish you luck. That’s not how Athlete Pro works.
Dr. Koscso isn’t just a name on a referral list — he’s a direct extension of our care team. We built this partnership so that when one of our patients needs advanced imaging, a second opinion, or a surgical consultation, the process is seamless. We communicate directly with his office, share clinical notes, and coordinate your care so nothing gets lost in translation. You’re never starting over with a new provider who doesn’t know your history, your sport, or your goals.
Dr. Koscso also brings a cutting-edge approach to orthopedic care. His fellowship training at the Hospital for Special Surgery — the top-ranked orthopedic hospital in the country — gave him access to the most advanced surgical techniques in sports medicine, including complex arthroscopic procedures, cartilage restoration, and biologic treatments that many surgeons in this market simply don’t offer. He stays current with the latest research in return-to-sport protocols, biologics, and minimally invasive approaches so that when surgery is the answer, it’s done with the most advanced methods available.
And when the surgical side is handled, your rehabilitation pathway leads right back through our doors. Dr. Koscso’s post-operative protocols are already integrated into how our physical therapists and athletic trainers treat, which means your recovery doesn’t skip a beat. From the day you leave the operating room through your final return-to-sport testing in our performance gym, you’re under one coordinated care team with one shared goal — getting you back to doing what you love at the level you expect.
